11:15-12:00 State of Michigan Advances Workforce and Career Development using MI Learning on iTunes U

Joel Milinsky, MI Learning on iTunes U

In 2007 Apple opened a dedicated educational podcast forum named iTunes U. This forum provides free, high quality educational resources from prestigious universities to anyone in the world. One year later, Apple expanded iTunes U to include content for grades K-12. K12 iTunes U was born. The Michigan Department of Education has partnered with Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) to populate K12 iTunes U with high quality standards-linked resources, which are posted under the title (Michigan's) MI Learning. Michigan is currently one of eight states participating in this project.

MI Learning on iTunes U is a gateway to educational audio, video, and pdf files submitted by organizations and educators throughout Michigan. These curriculum, leadership and professional development resources can be accessed by computer and other mobile devices offering learning opportunities for students.

Join this presentation for a look into how the State of Michigan is using Apple's mobilizing entertainment technologies to begin to educate the workforce of their future. The presentations will tell the tale of the mounting organic process to avoid overly bureaucratic possibilities as funding in education is being cut and industry looks toward retooling plants, operations, products and the skills of workers.
